Important Note About Tabs

1. Set the TABS up BEFORE you type anything!
2. Select the entire tab table before adjusting the tabs.

Footnote Suggestions

1. ALWAYS insert a footnote immediately adjacent to a letter or a punctuation mark. Do not have a space to the left of your cursor when you insert the footnote.

2. Let the computer worry about numbering your footnotes. It will do it accurately.

Strange Rules for Header and Footer

Follow these steps after going to the View menu and clicking on Print Layout:

1. Click on the title page
2. From the View menu, select Header and Footer
3. In the header, type what you want and format and arrange properly.
4. In the footer (BE SURE YOU STAY ON THE TITLE PAGE!), click the center alignment button. From the floating menu, click the # on the left (insert page number). NEVER ignore this step.
5. IF you want the first full page of text to be numbered 1, then click the third # from the left (format page number). Start numbering with 0. Otherwise ignore this step.
6. Click on the book (Page Setup). Click Layout Tab. Check different first page. This is necessary to hide the header and the footer on the title page.
7. From the View menu, once again click on Header and Footer. This will enable you to demonstrate that you have accomplished your objectives.

IF YOU DID NOT CREATE YOUR TITLE PAGE BEFORE YOUR TEXT:
1. Click in front of the first word of the first paragraph you typed.
2. Under Insert Break Select Page Break
3. Click on the new page and type your title page information.
4. Be sure to hit return after the last character you type on that page.
5. Also, after finishing with the header and footer, go to the first full page of text. Click in the first paragraph on that page. Left justify the text. (It will have changed to Center because of what you have done in steps 1-4 above).
